All you need to know about Calcitas D3
Calcitas-D3 belongs to the class of ‘Vitamins’. It is primarily used to treat low blood calcium levels. Calcitas-D3 effectively treats various conditions in the body like deficiency of vitamin D, osteoporosis (weak and fragile bones), latent tetany (a muscular disease with low blood calcium levels), hypoparathyroidism (parathyroid glands make low levels of calcium in the body), and osteomalacia(softening or deforming of bones due to lack of calcium). Vitamin D deficiency occurs when your body has low Vitamin D3/cholecalciferol levels. It is caused due to inadequate nutrition, intestinal malabsorption, or lack of sunlight exposure. Vitamin D is essential for maintaining bone density, growth and development of normal bone. It is also necessary for the utilization of both Calcium and Phosphorus. Vitamin D acts as a hormone and increases the reabsorption of Calcium and Phosphorus by the kidneys and increased bone turnover.

Calcitas-D3 Capsule 4’s contains Cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3). It helps in the mineralization of bone and thus maintains calcium and phosphorus levels in the blood. Calcitas-D3 Capsule 4’s is also used in the treatment of familial hypophosphatemia and deficiency of vitamin D. Hypophosphatemia is a group of rare inherited disorders characterized by impaired kidney conservation of phosphate and in some cases altered vitamin D metabolism.
It may be used in kidney disorders to keep calcium levels normal and allow normal bone growth. Breastfed infants are given vitamin D drops because breast milk usually has low levels of vitamin D.

Dosage
The dose of the medicament depends on the age of the patient. Vitamin D intake should be 800 international units (IU) for those above seventy years of age, 600 IU for persons between the ages of one and seventy, and 400 IU for children under the age of one year. Take all the doses at the proper time. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose. Take your next dose at the regular time. Mechanism of action
Vitamin D3 in Calcitas-D helps the body to absorb more calcium from food while the calcium in this tablet works by fulfilling the body’s calcium requirement. Both of the ingredients in this medicine work together to fulfil the body’s calcium requirement. Thus, helps in preventing and treating conditions associated with low body calcium levels.
Uses
The following are the uses of Calcitas-D:
Hypocalcemia: A condition in which the blood has a very low calcium level than normal. The doctor may prescribe Calcitas-D Tablet in the treatment of hypocalcemia.
Osteoporosis: Osteoporosis means “porous bones”. It is a condition in which the bones get brittle and weak. It is mainly due to low calcium intake. Calcitas-D Tablet helps in fulfilling the calcium requirement in the body. Therefore, can be used to cure osteoporosis.
Osteomalacia: Osteomalacia means “soft bones”. It is a condition when the bones get softer and becomes more likely to break. There is a deficiency of vitamin D. Hence, Calcitas D is recommended.
Hypoparathyroidism: It is a condition in which the body produces low levels of parathyroid hormone (PH). The parathyroid hormone helps in regulating calcium and phosphorous levels in the body. Producing low parathyroid hormone causes low calcium levels in the blood. Thus, used to treat hypoparathyroidism.
Vitamin D deficiency: Advised in case of vitamin D deficiency.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding: It is prescribed during pregnancy.
Contraindication
Cholecalciferol is contraindicated in all diseases associated with hypercalcemia, patients with known hypersensitivity to cholecalciferol or any of the constituent excipients. It is also contraindicated if there is evidence of vitamin D toxicity.
